Moving between maps in a cluster has one weak spot: if a server crashes soon after a player arrives, that player can log back in to the character creator. TransferGuard keeps backups so the real character can be put back.

Character backups

TransferGuard keeps several recent versions of every player's cluster data, so there is a copy from before a loss. A backup holds the character itself, including level, engrams, appearance and carried items. Restoring one brings back the real character, not a rebuild.

Backups run in the background and change nothing in the game.

At-risk report

After an unexpected shutdown, the log names the players whose arrival may have been lost, so you know which backups to look at.

Restoring a character

Restoring is done by an admin, with the servers stopped. It is not automatic.

A restore covers the whole account

A backup is everything that player had uploaded to the cluster at that moment. Restoring it puts all of it back to that point, so anything they uploaded since is replaced. Restore from a recent backup, and after a server wipe, remember that older backups can bring wiped characters back.
